TL;DR: what holder/holster/carry option do you use for your radio? Do you like it/dislike it?
Hi folks, hopefully this is an appropriate forum to ask.
The 'Universal Carry Holster' that Motorola provides is good enough for the non-first responder users who are getting 8000s through a gradual rollout.
Most of the fire and EMS groups opted for Boston Leather, most of them just tossing out the XTS 5000s in their current holder and throwing in their new radios - but eventually we're hoping to refresh everyone with new 8000 or 8000XE specific cases/holders from Boston.
(You know, these radios have displays and keypads you've gotta use once in a while, and yet it's like they have to be able to swing their radios to compensate for something... I'm not a fan. Having an easy-to-grab leverage point does not sound fun for the user, especially when dealing with, say, an agitated medical or an EDP call.)
We're now in the planning process for our local and state polices. The problem here is we don't think that the universal carry holster isn't secure enough. You're chasing an sp, radio pops out, not good.
We got one of every Motorola-made holster, and they're just... shoddy and flimsy.
We've been asking around and looking at things online, but I figure since I discovered this forum that I'd crowdsource this problem.
So - if you use a 6000 or 8000 (they're the same exterior housing, you just get a more erect nipple bigger all-band antenna to tickle your armpit with) - what holder/holster do you use?
My plan is to get a few of each, get various officers to try them out and demo them in the field. Folks will get the option of using a wired speaker mic with earpiece, or a wireless one.
Options that allow the radio to remain compact would be great as well - I'm sure detectives and white collars don't really carry duty belts.
I make no promises, but I'll see if I can't send some patches over to the eventual winner.
Thanks, all.
